Lindsay Shannon and his wife, Jo Shannon, opened B.B.'s Lawnside BBQ in Kansas City on October 15, 1990, in a building with an old granite barbecue pit. The menu paired Lindsay's Kansas City-style barbecue recipes with Jo's Louisiana recipes. A founding member of the Kansas City Blues Society in 1980 and longtime host of "The Kansas City Blues Show" on KCFX, he made live blues a permanent part of B.B.'s. After Jo died in 2021, he sold the restaurant to the Nickle family, who took over in June 2022.
